Greater Charleston Current Needs
(updated 11/22/13)

LoveGave: Volunteer for a 3 hour shift at the Goose Creek, Tanger, or West Ashley Walmarts and help us raise awareness and funds to give 10 $10,000 grants to families who are in the process of adopting.  We will also be collecting specified items to donate to orphan ministries and group homes across the lowcountry. Dec 5-7, 2013.  Go to www.lovegave.com to sign up or learn more!

Journey Bags: Dorchester, Berkeley, and Charleston County have no bags to date.  If you’re interested in packing a bag individually or as a group, contact us for what goes in them and how to set up a drive.

Families Serving Families: Looking for individual families or community groups to come alongside and commit to serve 1 foster family for 1 year.  This may include: cooking an occasional meal, praying for them, being a listening ear, sending encouragement cards, occasional child care (we ask for families to connect at least 1x per month).

Christmas Sponsorships: We may have more lists for children that are just taken into care as the holidays draw closer.  If you are interested in being a sponsor, let us know so that we can contact you when more lists come in.

Mentoring: Currently gauging interest in our brand new Mentoring Initiative in Charleston.  The program will be kicked off in Dorchester County.  If you live in or around this area and want to mentor a foster teen, let us know or keep a look out for Facebook posts regarding a Mentor Informational Meeting to be held in early January.

Emergency Clothing Closet: We’re working on setting up a clothing closet to house donations for emergency placements in the tri-county area.  If you have shoes, clothes, car seats, cribs, strollers, etc. that you no longer need, please contact us on having someone come by and pick them up.  Accepting items of all sizes at this time.  Once we have enough items from a particular size range, we will bring the remaining items to the Lowcountry Orphan Relief.  Our clothing closet will only be used for emergency placements so that the children will have clothes to wear for 2-3 days or until they are able to request items from L.O.R.

Email tfi.charleston@gmail.com for a list of items and instructions on how to get started!

Check back later as our needs list will most likely change as we get a better idea of how we can help our local agencies in Charleston.
